Admission Process for Guest Students

Students admitted to the University of Copenhagen as guest students are permitted to participate in courses and examinations. However, they are not entitled to complete a degree at the University of Copenhagen, nor are they able to convert their guest student status to that of a degree-seeking student.

Enrolment Period

Guest students are normally enrolled for one or two semesters. Extensions of guest student status to more than one year will only be granted in extraordinary cases and only for special academic reasons on the recommendation of the department concerned. Under no circumstances will a student be granted guest student status for more than two years.

Academic Background

If you wish to apply as a guest student, the University of Copenhagen requires that you have completed at least two years of full time studies at the beginning of the study abroad period in Copenhagen, and sometimes more. Guest student status is primarily for foreign students who wish to spend one or two semesters abroad as a part of their university education in their home country or elsewhere abroad. People with permanent residence permits in Denmark should apply through Open University or the relevant faculty.

Tuition Fees

Guest students are required to pay tuition fees for short-term, non-degree studies at the University of Copenhagen. The fee vary depending on courses and whether or not the applicant is from an European Union/EEA country.

Guest students from outside the European Union/EEA

Guest students from outside the European Union or outside the EEA countries are required to pay tuition fees for short-term, non-degree studies at the University of Copenhagen.

Please note that fees vary from faculty to faculty and the tuition fee will be determined by the most expensive category. That is, if a student chooses courses (one or more) from different categories, their tuition fee will be set according to the most expensive category. For example, if you have been admitted to Humanities and then decide to take a course at Law, you will have to pay the tuition fee for Law which is more expensive than Humanities.

It is only possible to get a refund of previously paid tuition fee if the course(s) one has paid for are cancelled by the University Copenhagen.

See Tuition Fees - please note that we expect to raise the fees for guest student studies from the spring semester 2014 (01-02-2014 to 30-06-2014)

Guest students from the European Union/EEA

Guest students from the European Union/EEA countries are required to pay tuition fees for short-term, non-degree studies at the University of Copenhagen.
