Housing for Guest Students
If you are admitted to the University of Copenhagen as a guest student, the International Office will help you find housing on your own. You will not receive a specific housing offer via the International Office and you should not apply for housing in your online application for admission.
If you a student at the Faculty of Science, the process is different. Please refer to our information about Housing for Science Students.
Finding Housing
On this page you can find lists of various halls of residence as well as of places to search for apartments or housing with a private landlord. Since not all the information is available in English, we also provide you with a small dictionary which you might find useful when searching for housing.
Please also read the information listed under Finding Accommodation for tips when searching for and finding accommodation
Private Housing
You should expect a room in a private home to cost between DKK 2,600 and DKK 4,000 – most costing an average of DKK 3,000. Please note that location, size and quality will reflect on the cost.
Please use www.rejseplanen.dk to look up the location of potential housing. It will also show you how to get there and how long it will take with public transportation. Remember to include areas such as Valby, Vanløse, Brønshøj as travelling times/distances might be much shorter than you expect.
Halls of Residence
Search list for halls of residence in Copenhagen
Please note that you apply to some halls of residence via an administrator (such as the CIU which is the largest) while others require a direct application. You can see which on the list above. This is not a complete list of all halls of residence in the greater Copenhagen area, so you might be able to find others on the Internet. Most kollegium only accept applications from students who will study in Copenhagen for a minimum of two semesters.
We strongly advise that if you wish to apply, you must do so as soon as you know that you are going to study at the University of Copenhagen, and no later than 3 months prior to arrival, since many halls have very long waiting lists. If you apply via CIU and have still not received a room upon arrival, you can get “extra points” for your waiting list ranking by visiting "Boligbutikken" located at Copenhagen Central Station.
Please remember that it is quite difficult to get a room in a hall of residence in the Copenhagen area. Halls of residence in Frederiksberg and Copenhagen K, V, Ø and N all have waiting lists of approx. 2 years. Since you can not be active on a waiting list until 3 months prior to your arrival, you must apply for halls of residence in the surrounding area of Copenhagen in order to have a chance of getting a room during your stay as a guest student.
