From application to study start for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

Here's our handy timeline showing our MSc programme application procedure from preparing your application to starting your studies. Two things especially to keep in mind during this process:

  • Once you've submitted your application, we'll contact you using the application portal. When we've sent you new information, you'll receive an e-mail notice saying there's a message waiting for you inside the portal.
  • Make sure you have access to the e-mail address you're registered with in the application portal through the entire admission process. We wouldn't want you to miss anything.
  • Prepare and submit your application Prepare and submit your application in the application portal.

Here's our user guide on how to use the application portal
  • Application deadline Your application deadline. We do not accept applications after this deadline.
  • Anything missing? We assess whether your application is complete by looking at the required documentation. If anything's missing, we will send you a message in the application portal and an e-mail notifying you a message has arrived. Your deadline for uploading any missing documents will be 1 week from the time we contact you. Make sure you check your e-mail every day.
  • Academic assessment We assess whether you meet the academic admission requirements.
  • Offer of admission If you meet the admission requirements and there's room in the programme, we'll send you an offer of admission in the application portal. Your offer will only be for the highest of your priorities on which we can offer you admission. If you are not qualified, we'll also let you know during this period. If you're qualified but there isn't room for you in the programme, we may put you on a waiting list. If you're put on the waiting list please refer to this timeline for the rest of the admission process.

Your admission offer may be conditional and include a list of conditions you must meet prior to admission, usually a language test and/or a certified diploma copy. We will list the deadline(s) and procedures for sending us documentation for meeting these conditions in the offer.

You have 1 week from receiving our offer of admission to let us know that you accept the admission offer. You accept (or reject) the offer through the application portal. If we do not hear from you in time, we'll offer your place to someone else. Once we've received your acceptance, we'll send you an official letter of admission within a few days.
  • Activate your UCPH user name You will receive your UCPH user name in the application system with instructions on how to activate it. Do this as soon as possible. With your user name you can log into KUnet, the UCPH intranet. (If you've previously been admitted to UCPH, e.g. as an exchange student, you are not sent a KU user name: You'll keep your old one. The KUnet login page has help options available if you're unsure about your user name or password.
  • Apply for housing As an international student (not from Norway or Sweden, though), you will receive an invitation to the University of Copenhagen Housing Foundation housing database where you can apply for housing in Copenhagen. We are regrettably not able to guarantee housing for all students, so you may also want to start looking into alternative housing options around this time.
  • Read your study start web site To make sure you're off to a great start, we're preparing a site for you introducing you to your programme and student life at UCPH. Take time to explore this website thoroughly and make finding out what courses to register for in your 1st semester your first priority. We'll send you a link to your study start web site in the application portal.
  • Register for courses You must register for courses in your 1st semester (block 1 and 2). Registration takes place by using the self service system on KUnet (requires login). It is absolutely vital that you register for courses during this period, or you may end up without a place on the courses you are planning to take in your first semester. Registration is compulsory for all types of courses (even those that are compulsory in your programme).
  • Language test score deadline Your deadline for sending us your language test score.

    Here's our language requirements
  • Arrival in Copenhagen If possible, we recommend that you arrive in Copenhagen by this date, but make you're ready to go before booking your plane tickets. If you're not able to make it by this date, make sure you're here before your first day of instruction at the latest.
  • Introduction programme Participate in our introduction programme to get to know your MSc programme, your new place of study, your fellow students and UCPH. During this time you'll also be able to register with the authorities, get your student ID and deal with other administrative matters. More information about the programme will be available on your study start web site.
  • First day of instruction First day of instruction on your new MSc programme.
  • Handing in proof of your degree deadline By this date at the latest you must hand in documentation that you've completed your bachelor's degree. If you fail to hand your documentation in by this date, you'll lose your spot in the programme.
