Admission Requirements

If you have completed a Bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor’s programme, you are eligible to apply for the MA in Film and Media Studies. 

Please note that the MA in Film and Media Studies only offers the concentration in Film and Audiovisual Aesthetics taught in English. For more information, please refer to Programme Structure.

Selection criteria

Admission to the English-taught concentration in Film and Audiovisual Aesthetics is limited to 20 students. Applicants will be subject to an overall individual assessment based on the following selection criteriawhereby applicants with the most points are granted admission. Up to 70 points are given based on the following criteria:

1. Up to 30 points for the evaluation of academic relevance of the bachelor programme:

  • 30 points for the BA in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen*
  • 20 points for the following bachelor programmes:
    • Media Studies from the University of Aarhus*
    • Communication and IT from the University of Copenhagen with a secondary-school bachelor elective study in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen* (45 ECTS credits)
  • 10 points for the following bachelor programmes:
    • Media Studies from the University of Southern Denmark*
    • Communication and IT from the University of Copenhagen without a   secondary-school bachelor elective study in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen*
  • Up to 20 points awarded to applicants with other Bachelor's degree qualifications based on an individual academic assessment of the programme’s academic relevance and quality.

2. Up to 20 points awarded for assessment of grades obtained from courses in film and media studies in the bachelor programme.

3. Up to 20 points awarded for a well-reasoned application (max. 4,000 characters including spaces and references) including a description of:

  • how the applicant’s professional and educational experience (including international experience) is relevant to the MA in Film and Media Studies,
  • what the applicant expects to learn during the programme, and
  • the applicant’s reflection on their career opportunities after graduation.

 

*The following Bachelor’s programmes fulfill the academic requirement for admission to the MA in Film and Media Studies:

  • Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen (reserved access**)
  • Media Studies from the University of Aarhus
  • Media Studies from the University of Southern Denmark
  • Communication and IT from the University of Copenhagen

**If your Bachelor’s degree grants reserved access, you are guaranteed a place on the Master’s programme if you apply before the application deadline during the first application period after you complete your Bachelor’s degree.

Language requirements

In order to qualify for admission, applicants are required to fulfil the English language requirement.
