Admission Requirements

If you have completed a Bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor’s programme, you are eligible to apply for the Master’s programme in Information Science and Cultural Communication. 

Regardless of what university you are enrolled at, you can - if you meet the course and language requirements - apply on the basis of a relevant Bachelor’s degree that grants direct access or another relevant Bachelor's degree.

Bachelor’s degrees that grant direct access

If you hold one of the degrees listed below (titles in Danish), you are considered to meet the admission requirements pertaining to the Master's programme in Information Science and Cultural Communication.
Note that applicants with direct access are still subject to an overall individual assessment in accordance with the selection criteria below.

  • Bachelor grad i Informationsvidenskab og Kulturformidling, Københavns Universitet (taught in Danish; reserved access*)
  • Bachelor grad i Informationsvidenskab og biblioteksvidenskab, Det Informationsvidenskabelige Akademi (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Bibliotekskundskab og videnskommunikation, Syddansk Universitet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Digitale medier og design, IT-Universitetet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Film- og medievidenskab, Københavns Universitet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Humanistisk informatik, Aalborg Universitet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Informations- og kommunikationsvidenskab, Syddansk Universitet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Informationsvidenskab, Aarhus Universitet (taught in Danish)
  • Bachelor grad i Kommunikation og it, Københavns Universitet (taught in Danish)

* If your Bachelor’s degree grants reserved access, you are guaranteed a place on the Master’s programme if you apply before the application deadline during the first application period after you complete your Bachelor’s degree

Other Bachelor’s degrees

Applicants holding other Bachelor’s degrees or similar are also eligible for admission if the applicant is assessed by the Study Board to have educational qualifications equivalent to the Bachelor’s programme(s) granting direct admission.

Due to national legislation only courses at bachelor level will be taken into consideration during assessment. Courses at Master's level will not be assessed with a víew to admission.

The Faculty may demand that admission to the Master’s programme requires participation in and passing of a supplementary course of up to 15 ECTS credits.

The supplementary course must be passed either before the beginning of the semester or at the latest at the first exam period after the student’s commencing of study.

Language requirements

In order to qualify for admission applicants are required to fulfil the English language requirements

Selection Criteria

Admission to the programme is restricted. In the event that the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places the selection between applicants will be done accordingly:

  1. Applicants granted reserved access
  2. Applicants granted direct access
  3. Applicants with other Bachelor degrees

and based on the following criteria:

  • Letter of Motivation. 
    In the Letter of Motivation applicants must state how they fulfill the admission requirements (only for students holding other bachelor degrees). More specifically, the applicants must argue how their educational qualifications qualify for acceptance to the Master's programme in Information Science and Cultural Communication.
