Study Track - Biophysics

The Biophysics study track forms part of the Biophysics specialisation. You can also design your own study track by choosing elective or restricted elective courses other than the ones proposed here.

Through the Biophysics study track, you will acquire knowledge of the quantitative physics of life's processes and building blocks.

You can either choose a more theoretical study track where you will learn to develop testable mathematical-physical models for how the individual components interact to form functional feedback systems,

You can also choose a more experimental specialisation where you will learn about the latest biophysical experimental techniques. These could be single-molecule techniques and super-resolution microscopy, or X-rays and neutron scattering used for conducting quantitative and structural studies of biological systems.

The study track particularly focuses on:

  • Stem cells, quantitative understanding of stem cell development, and differentiation processes
  • Structural biophysics where, for instance, x-rays and neutron scattering are used to examine the structure of molecular and cellular building blocks
  • Complex biological systems, network formation, and epidemiology
  • Membrane biophysics and thermodynamics
  • Biophotonics at nanoscale and plasmonic nanoparticles.
