Study Track - High Energy Theory and Cosmology
The High Energy Theory and Cosmology study track forms part of the Quantum Physics specialisation. You can also design your own study track by choosing elective or restricted elective courses other than the ones proposed here.
The study track introduces you to the most significant modern theories on what all matter is made of, how the fundamental forces of nature work, and how the universe was created.
Quantum field theory and the standard model of particle physics describe our current knowledge of the smallest components in the universe. The general theory of relativity describes gravitation, black holes, gravitational waves, and cosmology. Finally, it introduces modern theories on how quantum field theory and general theory of relativity can be combined.
In the table below, you can find the elective and restricted elective subjects which we propose you take to focus your specialisation on high energy theory and cosmology:
Block 1 | Block 2 | Block 3 | Block 4 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Year 1 | Advanced Quantum Mechanics | General Relativity and Cosmology | Quantum Field Theory 1 | Fundaments of High-Energy Astrophysics and Particle Astrophysics |
Elementary Particle Physics | Restricted elective/elective course or project | Modern Methods for Particle Scattering |
Choose one of: |
|
Year 2 | Thesis |
One block each year equals nine weeks of study and 15 ECTS.
