Study Track - Quantum Optics

The Quantum Optics study track forms part of the Quantum Physics specialisation. You can also design your own study track by choosing elective or restricted elective courses other than the ones proposed here.

The idea behind modern research in quantum physics is to control quantum mechanical systems with many components mutually affecting each other – including quantum states of light, the interaction between light and matter, nuclear gases and condensates, as well as nanometre-scale solid state physics at ultra-low temperature levels.

In the table below, you can find the elective and restricted elective subjects which we propose you take to focus your specialisation on quantum optics:

Block 1 Block 2 Block 3 Block 4
Year 1 Advanced Quantum Mechanics

Choose 2 of the following:

Applied Statistics: from Data to Results

Condensed Matter Theory 1 (CMT1)

Physical Implementations of Quantum Information Processing (new)

Restricted elective course

Elective course

Project outside course scope

Quantum Optics Advanced Quantum Optics and Photonics
Introduction to Quantum Computing

Choose 1 of the following:
