Erasmus+ traineeship
If your home university has an Erasmus Charter, you may be eligible to undertake training through an Erasmus traineeship at the University of Copenhagen.
Please note: The University of Copenhagen is not involved in traineeships carried out at hospitals. You can try to contact the hospital directly but you should note that they seldom accept guest students/trainees.
Students registered at a higher education institution and enrolled in studies leading to a recognised degree can participate in Erasmus Traineeship.
Recent higher education graduates may also participate in the traineeship. Recent graduates must be selected by their home institution during their last year of study and must carry out and complete the traineeship abroad within one year of obtaining their degree.
The sending and the receiving institution must be awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education*. However, there is no demand for a bilateral agreement between the two institutions.
Participating institutions must be established in a programme country. *See the list of programme countries at the end of this document.
List of Erasmus programme countries
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia and Turkey
The Erasmus Traineeship must be of a duration of minimum 2 months and maximum 12 months pr. study cycle (BA, MA, Ph.D.). The same student may receive grants for mobility periods totalling up to 12 months maximum pr. cycle of study (traineeship and studies).
An Erasmus Traineeship must be arranged in direct contact with a department or research group at the University of Copenhagen. This means that students are responsible for the initial contact to the relevant professor, researcher or research group and for planning the Erasmus Traineeship.
The International Education office cannot help students find a relevant professor, researcher or research group.
To search for a relevant person please click here.
Please note that students must have a clear motivation and argumentation for doing the Erasmus Traineeship before the initial contact to the relevant professor, researcher or research group is made.
When both the student and the relevant contact person at the University of Copenhagen have agreed upon doing the Erasmus Traineeship, a Learning Agreement for Traineeship must be filled out and signed by the student, the home university, and the UCPH department or head of research group responsible for hosting the student.
When the Learning Agreement for Traineeship is filled out and signed, it must be sent to int-admission@adm.ku.dk.
Once we have received a fully signed Traineeship Agreement we will register the student and the student will receive a letter of admission with information regarding access to KUnet, UCPH e-mail account, student ID card etc.
Please note that Erasmus Traineeship students are not allowed to sign up for courses.
Nordic and EU citizens will receive guidance about applying for a residence document from the International Education office, when we have received your signed Erasmus traineeship agreement.
Non-EU/EEA citizens must have a valid residence and work permit before starting a traineeship.
The application process takes 2-3 months, so it is important that you apply in good time.
For information about Erasmus Traineeship grants, ECTS, etc., the student must contact the international department at their home university.
All trainees are strongly recommended to take out liability and accident insurance coverage on their own.
According to Danish legislation, Danish universities are generally not allowed to take out insurance coverage. This means that the trainee will not be covered by any accident or liability insurance taken out by the University of Copenhagen during the traineeship.
In case of damage to the property of the University of Copenhagen caused by a trainee, the University of Copenhagen will assess the degree of guilt in the specific case:
- The University of Copenhagen will cover damages assessed to be made inadvertently
- The University of Copenhagen will not cover any damages assessed to be made deliberately owing to gross negligence or intention
- The University of Copenhagen will not cover any third-party damages
